Bahama Woodstar

Yes...as in the Bahamas. This is a little bird that must have travelled very far. They have been seen in Florida and the Bahamas, their native habitat. I'll be darned if that isn't one right there on the aspen tree in our driveway waaaaay out here in Aspen Park, CO! This is a female Bahama Woodstar. It took some searching, but I figured out what this pretty little puffball was. VERY tiny, about half the length of my pinky. No bigger than an aspen leaf, as you can see. WOW! I had noticed this bird before, it sticks out among all the green and red hummers that buzz by all day long. Check it out! http://southfloridabirding.com/html/bahama_woodstar.html

Steller's Jay

This is a noisy bird. His shrill shreaking sound sounds to me like a young mountain lion. The hummingbirds are not too amused that he has taken to perching in their dead aspen tree.

Perfect Contrast

I do not know what the deep red leafed plant is here, but it goes so well against these bright yellow daisies. I love it.
