Water Bird

I don't know what kind of bird this is, but he sure looked hungry. He sat patiently on the banks of the S. Platte, didn't move a muscle and didn't catch anything!

This jewel is a black-crowned night-heron.

Your question has been answered, but I wanted to put in my two cents. I am in Aspen visiting, but I come from Maine. I was looking for info on a medium sized, gray water bird I saw at Maroon Lake yesterday when i found this. Nice photo of a
Black Crowned Night Heron, which we have in Maine.
